- hope when none exists
- direction for those who do not know where to seek help.

When you dial the Breathing Space phone number, your call will be answered by one of our specialist advisers. They come from a range of mental health, counselling and social work backgrounds. You can ask to speak specifically to a man or a woman.
BSL Interpretation Service
The BSL interpretation service is available during the Breathing Space phoneline opening hours of:
- Monday to Friday: 6pm to midnight
- Saturday and Sunday: 8am to midnight

Breathing Space Phoneline is for anyone living with mental health problems and those experiencing emotional distress or family members, partners and friends who are concerned about their own wellbeing and that of people they care about.
Monday - Friday: 6pm to 6am
Saturday - Sunday: 24hour

Breathing Space was launched in 2002 to address serious concerns about the mental wellbeing of people in Scotland. The service became a national phoneline in 2004. Breathing Space complements the work of other phonelines and agencies which are endeavouring to reduce suicide rates in Scotland. Our advisors come from a range of mental health, counselling and social work backgrounds. There is an equal ratio of male to female advisors, who may be part-time or full-time. Breathing Space is not a volunteer service.
